I can't really address small MFP's, except I have a Brother For desktop scanners, I've been using Fujitsu ScanSnaps for ~9 years now - they just keep getting better and cheaper. I have also read instructions on how to network the scan so that it scans to a folder but have never tried that as I don't need it.Īll my copier/MFP's use scan to email, but with on-prem Exchange it's just no big deal. Also, separately from the HP provided programmes all the Linux Distros I have used come with a scan programme that is not vendor specific and just works with a direct connection between PC and printer. Just checked on an installation of Mint and the HP drivers are there specifically the hplip modules and I Opens a new window has a description of how to get it going using the HP software which for Linux may not have the on-line account restriction. If it works then it would mean that you would have to boot up a PC from a USB with Linux on it or run Linux on a PC (dual boot or VM) and I realise that is a big nuisance. I think that you are a Windows guy but I did wonder whether Linux may just give you another option to try. It reminds me of one of the reasons I switched away from using MFP ink jet printers (HP I think) when I found I could not scan a document because the printer had decided that one of the ink jets needed changing. That is annoying and I can't see the logic behind HPs insistence of having an on-line account to scan documents.
